Gene Test

Genetic Testing is a relatively new field in curative and anti-aging medicine. The technology primarily aims to help prevent certain diseases caused by heredity, including cancer, while also providing a detailed map that can help in planning an effective anti-aging program for the patient. Prof. Somyos Kunachak, a plastic and cosmetic surgeon, an anti-aging specialist in Thailand, and the current (2020) president of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Association of Thailand, believes that inheritance of abnormal genes from parents can greatly increase the risk for the child to contract the same disease later on in life, thus knowing this risk gives better chance for the kid and the parents as well, to do early lifestyle modifications for prevention. As we all know, prevention is better than cure.

The detection of abnormal genes through gene testing will be useful for preventive treatments such as periodic health checks for risk factors as well. It may seem costly at first, but studies show that late discovered diseases (or the stage where the disease already show symptoms) will actually cost more (up to triple) during treatment. Aside for the financial impact of a disease, it will also definitely affect the body, the mind, and basically the whole life of a person. 

HOW IS GENE TEST IN THAILAND DONE?

Genetic testing in Thailand is done through a simple blood test. Our nurse will be drawing 12-15cc of blood from the patient then the blood will be sent to the lab for sequencing. The result for which will be available in 30 to 45 days. No special preparation is required for the test, no diet restrictions, no need to stop any medication since the lab will be looking at your original genes. 

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE RESULT OF YOUR GENE TEST IN THAILAND?

The result of your gene test in Thailand will be presented in a book. Each of the 50 genes that will be tested will be discusses according to their affinity to cancer. Negative results will show negative affinity while positive result will be discussed more thoroughly based on the organs they are related to. THE RESULT DOES NOT SHOW THE PRESENCE OF CANCER CELLS IN THE BODY, IT ONLY SHOWS WHICH OF YOUR GENES ARE PREDISPOSED TO DEVELOPING CANCER.

Since the result will show which of your genes are predisposed to cancer and which organ of the body has high risk, modifying your lifestyle will be so much easier. Some people may not want to live feeling over protective or paranoid over this, but knowledge is power, knowing your body, knowing what you can do and what you should at least lessen, will help you enjoy your life better in the long run. 

Early diagnostic tests can also be scheduled once you reach a certain age.
