 Rhinoplasty in Bangkok

The shape of our nose is one of the defining characteristic of our face, and though there is no such thing as a universal perfect nose shape, there are certain universal features that are deemed more attractive such as a straight nasal dorsum, a narrow nasal tip, a small dip between the dorsum and the tip, complementing facial angles, and appropriate nasal projection and width. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with the nose that compliments the rest of our facial features.

To those looking to improving the shape of their nose, a number of procedures can be done to achieve the best possible result that they want, but for those who want a higher nasal bridge, nose augmentation, or augmentation rhinoplasty is the solution.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE FOR NOSE AUGMENTATION in Thailand?

Nose augmentation in Thailand is a purely cosmetic surgical procedure that can either be done through a closed or an open technique. Anyone with good health and realistic expectation may be a good candidate for nose augmentation. Patients should be aware however that before any reputable surgeon agrees to a nose surgery procedure, their facial structure will first be taken into consideration along with the shape of the nose they want to achieve to make sure the client understands that a change in the shape of the nose will bring a significant impact on the overall appearance of the face.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING CONSULTATION FOR NOSE AUGMENTATION in Thailand?

Most patients who would like to undergo nose augmentation in Thailand desire a certain look they probably saw on television, in a magazine, or somewhere else. During your consultation, Prof. Somyos Kunachak will encourage you to clearly state your desired result, before explaining the possibilities of achieving which. It may be best if you will bring along a photo of the shape or type of nose that you want so our surgeon can have a clear visual picture and thus, explain to you better if what you want is achievable or not.

Note that your bone structure, the skin on your nose (thinness or thickness), and the existing shape of your nose will all play a major factor in setting the limitations as to how far our surgeon can go to improve your current nose. A good and honest surgeon will explicitly inform you if your desire is achievable, and if it will compliment the rest of your face.

The choice of implant material will also be presented to you during your initial consultation. Our surgeon, Prof. Somyos Kunachak, one of the best nose surgeons in Thailand, will explain the pro’s and con’s of each of the material that may be used and then recommend whichever he believes will work best for you, but the final decision will always be yours.

Again, there is no universally perfect nose shape, it all depends on how it will look harmoniously with the rest of your facial features.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS FOR NOSE AUGMENTATION in Thailand?

There are several ways and techniques to increase the height of the nose bridge, the most popular of which are the silicone implants and the filler injections, however, since cosmetic surgery has been gearing towards the more natural ways, there are also autologous cartilage transfers from the ribs  ears, or from your own nose (septal cartilage).

SILICONE IMPLANT:

Silicone implants for Nose Augmentation in Thailand also comes in different shapes and sizes and our surgeon will help you pick and decide the implant that is right for you. With a silicone implant alone, your nose surgery in Thailand will be done under local anesthesia and the incision will be just inside the nostrils. Since silicone nose implants are pre-shaped, our surgeon will have to reshape and readjust it to suit the underlying structure of your nose better. The silicone will also need to be trimmed to suit the height that your want to achieve.

Silicone implants in Thailand can ideally last for 10-15 years but you may have to see your surgeon periodically for an examination of whether you need a replacement or not. Since our body changes as we age, the shape of your nose will also change while the silicone will remain the same, hence, adjustments (or a touch up) may be made in the future.

FILLER INJECTIONS:

Filler injections in Thailand includes Hyaluronic Acid based fillers which gets absorbed by our body 6-12months after injection. Basically, the best thing about fillers is that it will not involve surgery so there will actually be no downtime, however, swelling and bruising is still possible and can be expected in the first few days after the surgery.

Filler injections in Thailand is the best option for patients who are not actually sure if they want to have a higher nose bridge or not because it is not permanent. For those who had semi permanent fillers, then find the shape unsatisfactory, we have a substance to make it easier to be absorbed or there is a minimal invasive procedure to remove it, thus neutralizing it’s effect.

CARTILAGE:

The use of rib cartilage, septal cartilage, ear cartilage, dermal fat, or fascia, for nose augmentation in Thailand has gained popularity in the Asian regions especially in Korea. This technique is a more invasive approach to nose augmentation but people are finding it better than using synthetic products such as silicone. The result of nose augmentation using rib cartilage can last a lifetime since patients will be using their own body parts and it is a good option for patients who refuse to have silicone implants.

Surgery time using this technique will be significantly longer than silicone implants and general anesthesia is usually prescribed for this procedure.

A 3-5cm  separate incision will have to be done on the lower chest area to harvest the cartilage.

WHAT OTHER NOSE PROCEDURES CAN YOU COMBINE WITH NOSE AUGMENTATION in Thailand?

Nose augmentation can be done alone but it is best done in combination with tip plasty, alarplasty, and/or narrowing of the sides of the nose bridge (otoplasty), depending on original structure of your nose.

Tip plasty is usually recommended for patients with drooping tip but it is also done for patients who want finer tip projection. The procedure can be done by reduction or correction of the bulbous tip or adding another cartilage from donor sites (usually ear cartillage) from the patient’s own body, or using a silicone implant that will extend up to the tip of the nose.

Alarplasty in Thailand on the other hand is for patients who have wide alar base or large nostrils who want to make it narrower. Alar plasty can be done in a closed approach where in the incision will be inside, at the base of the nostril, or the open approach where the incision will be outside at the edge of the alar base. Each technique also have their own indications so Prof. Somyos will again discuss the possibilities and the limitations of each technique before the patient decides.

HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY FOR NOSE AUGMENTATION in Thailand?

Depending on the technique that the patient and the surgeon agrees upon, the recovery period also varies. With filler injection, there will be no down time but swelling and bruising can be expected for a few days. With the surgical side, using silicone implant will cause bruising and swelling which will resolve in less than 2 weeks though some patients heal faster. With the use of the cartilage, swelling and bruising may take similar recovery period.

For all the 3 techniques or materials that can be used, it is highly advisable that patients take extra care of their nose especially during the first 3 months after the surgery or injection. Extreme external force may cause deviation of the implant, the filler, or even the nose itself.

Quitting smoking is highly recommended especially during the recovery phase as it may cause breathing difficulty by clogging the nose. With the area swollen and injured, your breathing is already a bit compromised and smoking may worsen it. It also delays wound healing and promotes unpleasant scarring.

  • Open Rhinoplasty Thailand

Open rhinoplasty is a surgical technique used in nose reshaping procedures. It is also known as external rhinoplasty. In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes a small incision on the columella, which is the strip of skin separating the nostrils. This incision allows the surgeon to lift the skin and soft tissues of the nose, providing better visibility and access to the nasal structures.
