Extended Neck Contouring

Our neck is one of the first areas that show our age, especially for women. While men can usually hide their neck away with buttoned collars, women rarely dress in full turtle necks especially on special occasions. Sadly, we rarely take care of our neck the way we take care of our face.

Now that both men and women are more accepting with the benefits of cosmetic anti-aging, several technology had been made available to rejuvenate the neck as well. We how have Ulthera, Threadlift, Stem Cell injection, and laser treatments to tighten, lift, and improve the skin on the neck, but what are the options for those with already saggy skin, because the truth is, while all the above mentioned has garnered positive feedbacks from patients, they could never reverse excess skin.

WHAT IS EXTENDED NECK CONTOURING IN THAILAND?

Extended Neck Contouring as in the name, is an extension of the normal neck contouring/neck lift in Thailand. It is a combination of liposuction for the fat under the chin, platysma muscle tightening, removal fat on the underlying fascia (cannot be done by liposuction alone), and removal of excess skin from an incision along the back hairline.

This surgery is usually done under general anesthesia and will need a recovery period of 10-14 days. While patients can generally go around and enjoy the sights of Bangkok in 2-3 days post-surgery, staying until all sutures are removed will be ideal.

WHO ARE THE CANDIDATES FOR EXTENDED NECK CONTOURING IN THAILAND?

Patients looking to have neck rejuvenation have a wide range of options from non-invasive (ulthera), minimal invasive (threadlift), and invasive (neck contouring and extended neck contouring) procedures. Your personal consultation with our surgeon will allow us to assess the quality of your skin, fat deposit, and muscle tightness, then consider these with your hereditary tendencies.

Depending on the factors mentioned above, several approaches can be recommended. Extended neck contouring is usually a last resort procedure since it entails a longer down time, but on cases where excess skin really needs to be removed or the result with not be optimum, the latter is encouraged. Also, younger patients who are predisposed to having double chin despite normal weight, may want to consider this option in the future.

 WHAT SHOULD PATIENTS KNOW BEFORE COMING TO THAILAND FOR EXTENDED NECK CONTOURING?

Patients who are looking to have extended neck contouring in Thailand should ideally have at least 15days for proper consultation, surgery, and follow ups. The patient should understand that while the procedure is quite a routine for Prof. Kunachak, recovery still varies and some patients recover faster than others so considering that the surgery will be done in a foreign country, being on a very tight schedule is not ideal.

Patients should also understand that the result of surgery will take time to be appreciable, especially for the under chin. Swelling on this area takes a few weeks to subside and at least 6 months to settle (by gravity) so for those planning to have this done for an event (a wedding, a reunion), allow a longer recovery time.

In some cases, extended neck contouring alone will not solve all issues with the neck-jowl area, and a combination procedure may be recommended. While it is always the patient’s decision which approach to take, working closely with the surgeon is the key to achieving an optimum result.
